Music

At MVCA, we believe music is a powerful gift from God—meant to glorify Him, build community, and stir the soul. Our K–12 music program lays a rich foundation in musical excellence while encouraging joyful expression and worship. Led by passionate educators, students grow in skill, creativity, and confidence as they learn to read music, perform in bands and choirs, and use their God-given talents to make a joyful noise unto the Lord (Psalm 98:4).

Elementary Band

In 5th grade, students dive into the exciting world of band by attending class three times a week! They begin learning a new instrument, discover how to read music, and take their first steps in playing together as an ensemble. It’s a fun and foundational year where students build confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love of music!

Middle School Band

Middle school band meets daily and takes students to the next level of musicianship! As they continue to grow in their skills, students explore more advanced techniques like articulations, dynamics, and ensemble blending. It’s a high-energy, hands-on experience where young musicians learn how to create a unified sound and express themselves through music.

High School Band

High school band is an advanced, dynamic course where students perform a wide variety of music—including concert pieces, jazz selections, and spirited pep band favorites. In addition to refining techniques like articulation, dynamics, and ensemble balance, students dig deeper into music theory and interpretation. It’s a challenging and rewarding experience that sharpens musical excellence while building school spirit and lasting friendships.

Lower School Music Classes

K-5th graders enjoy weekly classes learning fundamental musical concepts through a variety of methods.

Upper School Choir

Students have the opportunity to develop their voices while engaging in dynamic performances and learning to listen critically. Through vocal training, aural and visual analysis, and constructive feedback, students grow in confidence, musicality, and their ability to support and inspire one another.

Annual Competition

Each year the band and choir participate in an adjudicated event/trip, allowing students the opportunity to receive judge feedback and rating. In recent years, our groups have traveled to Chicago, Cleveland, and Hershey!
